German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Wednesday reiterated that Germany would not participate in a US-led war against Iraq.
Speaking to reporters here, Schroeder said that "under my leadership, Germany will not take part in the intervention in Iraq" and that Berlin's position is supported by EU partners.
Pressure must be maintained on Baghdad for it to allow UN weapon inspectors to enter into Iraq, but information obtained by the German government does not suggest any new threat from Iraq, he said.
Schroeder said that a military intervention in Iraq would shaken the international anti-terrorism coalition and the supporters for such action have not thought over the consequences afterwards.
The German leader repeated that in case of the US military attack on Iraq, Germany would pull out a tank platoon stationed inKuwait. But he refused to answer whether Germany would permit US war planes to fly over Germany during a military strike against Iraq.
