Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met with Thai Princess Chulabhorn Mahidol Wednesday, praising her efforts to boost Sino-Thai relations.
Zhu, who is taking part in the Earth Summit, said he was happy to meet with Princess Mahidol in South Africa.
The Chinese premier recalled he last year paid an official visit to Thailand and was greeted by Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
"The friendship and hospitality of Thai royal family, Thai government and personalities of various circles in that country left me a beautiful impression," said Zhu.
In the long run, Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej and his royal family have thrown much zeal into the friendship between China and Thailand, playing a great role in furthering the healthy development of the bilateral relations, according to Zhu.
He also praised that Princess Mahidol devoted herself to learning "zheng," a Chinese zither with 25 strings.
Zhu said he appreciated Princess Mahidol's efforts to promote the cultural exchanges between China and Thailand.
For her part, Princess Mahidol said that whenever she visited China, she felt China and Thailand are just like a family.
She thanked China's arrangement for her to learn to play zheng, saying that China's ancient music fascinated her.
