AIPU Opposes US War Threats on Iraq
Arab parliamentarians Wednesday in Baghdad voiced their opposition to the US threats to launch military actions on Iraq, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
Arab parliamentarians Wednesday in Baghdad voiced their opposition to the US threats to launch military actions on Iraq, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
After their two-day extraordinary session of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), the participants issued a statement, saying they "reject the US threats against Iraq and agree that any aggression on Iraq is an aggression on the whole Arab world."
The parliamentarians also urged the international community to reject the aggression on Iraq and planned to send some members of Arab parliaments to hold talks with their European and US counterparts in this regard.
The gathering of parliamentarians, from AIPU member parliaments except those from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, came as the United States is mulling over whether to achieve a "regime change" in Iraqby launching a full-scale war.
US President George W. Bush, who accused Iraq of pursuing weapons of mass destruction and supporting terrorism, has repeatedly vowed to achieve a "regime change" in Iraq with all the tools at his disposal.
However, the United States has so far failed to win supports from many of its European allies and Arab countries, which have voiced opposition to any war on Iraq without a UN mandate.
