Chinese Top Legislator Meets Thai King

China and Thailand share the hope to strengthen their traditional close relations which have brought great benefits to both peoples, said visiting Chinese top legislator Li Peng Wednesday in Hua Hin.

China and Thailand share the hope to strengthen their traditional close relations which have brought great benefits to both peoples, said visiting Chinese top legislator Li Peng Wednesday in Hua Hin.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks during a meeting with King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej and Princess Sirindhorn at the royal palace at Hua Hin, 200 kilometers south of Bangkok.

Recalling the development of the bilateral ties during the past27 years, Li said the friendship between China and Thailand has not only brought concrete benefits to both peoples, but also made contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Li, who is on the second day of his visit to Thailand, spoke highly of the efforts made by the Thai royal family to promote the close cooperation between the two countries.

King Bhumibol said that he shares Li's views on further advancing bilateral ties, noting that he has been encouraging members of his family to pay visits to China, and their tours havehelped increase mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Li briefed the King on China's recent developments in the construction of the Three Gorges Dam, saying that the constructionwork has been carried out as planned, and the dam will be erected,ship lock will start working and electricity expected to be generated within the next year.

The Thai king spoke highly of China's efforts to explore clean energy even having rich coal resources itself. "China's decision to build the Three Gorges Dam has been wise and correct," he said.
