US Could Offer More Iraqi Weapons Evidence: Rumsfeld
US President George W. Bush would release more details about the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction program in the coming weeks, US Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday.
US President George W. Bush would release more details about the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction program in the coming weeks, US Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters during a Pentagon briefing, Rumsfeld said the new evidence could be released during congressional hearings on Iraq scheduled for later this month.
"What the president wants to do, and will do, in his own time, is to provide information he feels is important with respect to any judgment he decides to make," he said.
Rumsfeld also denied that there are any differences among Bush's national security team, despite press reports to the contrary.
He said any differences among the team members are minor and can be explained by a different institutional view.
The president and his national security team is focusing on the fact that times have changed, Rumsfeld said.
"The focus today must be unconventional weapons," he said. "Weapons that could kill not hundreds of people, but tens of thousands of people."
