Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Tuesday reassured his people that Iraq will turn out victorious amid mounting US threats to oust him, the official Iraqi News Agency reported.
"If you want to gain victory, you should start with yourself. And before you start to convince others of the victory, you should convince yourself," Saddam said in a message to "the Iraqi people, the Arab nation and all the free men in the world."
"On this base, we gained victories in all other battles before ... (and) so we gained and will gain victory in the ImmortalMother of All Battles as a result," Saddam said, referring to the Gulf War between Iraq and the US-led alliance forces in 1991.
Iraq invaded and occupied kuwait in August 1990 and was evicted out of the small emirate by the multi-national forces in the 1991 Gulf War.
The Iraqi leader's remarks came as the United States is mulling over whether to achieve a "regime change" in Iraq by launching a full-scale war.
US President George W. Bush, accusing Iraq of pursuing weapons of mass destruction and supporting terrorism, has vowed to topple Saddam with all the tools at his disposal.
Facing US saber-rattling, Saddam remains defiant and has repeatedly said any aggression against his country is doomed to failure.
