Returned overseas Chinese, Chinese historians and legal academics met in Beijing on Tuesday to mark the 57th anniversary of China's victory against Japan, the day Japan's official surrender ended World War 2.

The China Memorial Hall on the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression was announced this morning as one of 20 educational bases for the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (ACFROC).

Sited near the Lugou (Marco Polo) Bridge on the western outskirts of Beijing where the war of resistance started on July 7,1937, the memorial hall is collecting relevant exhibits from around the world to better illustrate the war.

ACFROC Vice-Chairman Lin Mingjiang said all the 20 newly named educational bases for his federation reflected the contribution of overseas Chinese worldwide in the process of China's revolution and development.

During the 14 years of Japan's occupation of China (1931-1945), many overseas Chinese including businessmen, students and laborers, young and old, men and women, sacrificed their lives or property in China's war of resistance.

The memorial hall received 42 historical items on Tuesday donated by Chinese collector Yang Xiangfei, including books, newspapers, photo albums and maps about the war of resistance.

A Japanese person sent from Japan two items worn by Japanese soldiers during the war period, a pair of boots made of fish skin and a bamboo helmet.

The Chinese historians and legal scholars heard an introductory report at the memorial hall made by Chinese victims of Japan's germ warfare experiments who participated in the recent lawsuit in Tokyo, Japan.
