Boeing 'Explosion Crisis' Rocking the World, Chinese Flights Escaped Nightmare
Aug. 30 saw the FAA dispatched an urgent order, demanding all major airlines in the States to make a thorough check on 1440 Boeing aircraft, because these aircraft are found having possible problems on the connecting lines of their fuel pumps, which may cause explosion. In last January and April, about 1250 such fuel pumps were installed onto Boeing 737, 747 and 757 aircraft.
The horrible news got on wings in the airlines of all countries and Aug.31 saw them set on an immediate action, a careful and strict check on the aircraft under their management.
As learned, these fuel pumps are manufactured in a factory in California. As the fuel-pump is fixed too close to the gyro-axle it's easier to ignite fire out of friction, thus causing aircraft explosion. And so people began to doubt the "inexplicable air-crushes" happened in the past might have things to do with the fuel-pump.
Chinese flights escaped from disaster
The reporter was unable to get in touch with any CAAC responsible person for the weekend. However, the reporter got to know, the Shanghai Airlines and China Eastern Airlines have already expressed openly that their aircraft had no such hidden problems at all. The news from Beijing on September 1, 2002 also attested the same thing with all the flights from Beijing to cities at home and abroad taking off on schedule. Judging from the news the reporter got as a whole, the "Boeing safety check event of 1440 aircraft" did not affect the normal operation of any domestic flight in China.
According to the person concerned, among the aircraft of China Eastern Airlines Headquarters now under operation there is no such type of Boeing aircraft. The responsible person of the Shanghai Airlines expressed, though the company now owned some 20 aircraft of Boeing 737 and 757 it hasn't so far heard any request from the Boeing Co. that the aircraft must be checked. Therefore, we can come to an initial conclusion that the Boeing aircraft of the Shanghai Airlines do not fall into that category of the troubled aircraft.
Four days are given by the FAA for all major airlines to make check on the type of the troubled aircraft. As the reporter learned all fuel-pumps on the Boeing aircraft that China has are made by an Ohio company, no problem of suchlike has been found yet. Up to now, all major airlines in China haven't received any instruction from the CAAC or any from the Boeing Co. for check and maintenance.
Nevertheless, according to the news from "Beijing Youth Daily", the PR of the FAA said on Aug.31 that of the three Boeing aircraft found to have such problems, one belongs to the China Southern Airlines. Fortunately, the problem of the fuel-pump has been found out before it is transported to China and now the troubled part has been sent back to the Hydro-Aire Company for checkup.
The Chinese airlines all expressed that they would pay every close attention to the result of the safety check event this time in order to prevent the same occurrence in China.
Impact no small scale
Analysts hold that in a circumstance in which the global air-transportation was still not recovered the "Boeing safety check event" has added another calamity to the already injured and depressed air-transportation businesses of all the airlines in the world, making their stocks to go all the time downward.
The Boeing has been found beset in 2002. Starting from the Air China's air-crush at Pusan on Apr 15, within a short span of 40 days, there occurred five serious air-crushes in succession in the world. Of the five crushed airplanes, four are from the Boeing Company.
When the four air-crushes still lingered in the shadows there came another crisis, the "Boeing global safety check event". How is the Boeing going to face the disastrous event all still remains to be an unknown number.
