Spanish first deputy prime minister and government spokesman Mariano Rajoy said Friday that "there still remain ways" through diplomatic resources to prevent US military action against Iraq.

Rajoy told a press conference after a cabinet meeting that Spain is in favor of "asking Iraq to allow United Nations inspectors to fulfill their duty," and the international community should make "any necessary effort or diplomatic pressure to have this done."

Moreover, he stressed the need to find a common position of the15 members of the European Union (EU), which hold a foreign ministers meeting in Denmark Friday to discuss EU's stand on this issue.

Recently, the United States has been launching a diplomatic attack against Iraq, ignoring the opposite attitude of European and Arab countries.
