Japan Announces PM's Visit to DPRK

Japan announced Friday that Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sept. 17 for talks with its top leader Kim Jong Il, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said on Friday.

Japan announced Friday that Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi will visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sept. 17 for talks with its top leader Kim Jong Il, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda said on Friday.

Koizumi will pay a one-day visit to the DPRK on Sept. 17 and is expected to discuss with Kim issues related to establishment of bilateral ties, said Fukuda, the top Japanese government spokesman.

The Japanese prime minister's DPRK tour will be the first visit to Pyongyang and the first-ever Japan-DPRK summit talks.
