Visiting US official Thursday said the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) should accept inspections from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security John Bolton was quoted as saying by South Korean nationalnews agency Yonhap News that the United States has iterated its stand on the matter. The DPRK should accept IAEA inspectors as soon as possible in accordance with the 1994 Agreed Framework thatstipulates IAEA inspections before 2005, he noted.

The US administration also has said several times that the IAEAshould be free of political pressure and influence from the UnitedStates and other countries, added he.

"As US President George W. Bush said during his February visit to Seoul, the United States has no intention of invading DPRK," Bolton was quoted by Yonhap saying when asked what action the United States might take if DPRK continues to reject IAEA inspections.

Moreover, Bolton reiterated that the United States is prepared to talk with the DPRK about steps that would lead to a more hopeful and less threatening future, stressed Yonhap.

"We continue to stand by this offer of dialogue -- anytime, anyplace," added he.

Concerning inter-Korean projects, including the Mt. Geumgang tourism program, Bolton said the United States supports such exchanges, adding, "I am sure the projects have a very positive impact."

However, he also noted that the United States and South Korea both agree that the DPRK should halt "the development of weapons of mass destruction."

Bolton, who met with protest by some South Koreans for his persistent hawkish stand on DPRK, arrived in Seoul Wednesday for athree-day visit.
