Harbin has accumulated experience for future bidding despite losing an early battle to host the 2010 Winter Games, a Chinese official said on Wednesday.
Harbin has accumulated experience for future bidding despite losing an early battle to host the 2010 Winter Games, a Chinese official said on Wednesday.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Wednesday that Vancouver, Canada; Salzburg, Austria; Bern, Switzerland and Pyeongchang, South Korea had been selected as finalists in the race for the 2010 Winter Olympics while Harbin of China and three other cities were eliminated.
"Harbin's bid was an important move of China to boost the Olympic Movement in the country in the wake of Beijing's victory in the 2008 summer Olympic bidding," said Zhu Chengyi, deputy director of the Winter Sports Administration Center.
"Since joining the bidding run, Harbin has made lots of efforts under the IOC regulations in order to make it to the shortlist."
"Though Harbin failed to become a finalist, the bidding itself had boosted the development of the city and made it better known to the world. The most important thing is that it has accumulated experience for a future bid," Zhu added.
