Floods have caused 1300 deaths this year, said Wang Shucheng, minister of Water Resources in Hunan province. In the meanwhile, he made three suggestions for flood-control work of the country.
Wang pointed out at the Hunan Flood-Control Work Report Meeting on August 26 that drought is the major problem this year, but floods are also rather serious.
One salient feature of this year's flood is that torrential rain in some regions has brought disaster, especially in Hunan Province.
According to China Youth Daily, except some hydrologic stations along the Yangtze River exceeded water level in recent days, other seven rivers like the Yellow River, Neijiang River and Songhuajiang River's did not reach the warning water level.
Wang summarized this year's flood-control work experience. He said that no breach was made in the embankment, reservoir or dyke of Hunan Province, this is because, first, flood-control materials are well prepared, second, high-standard embankment facilities play their due role.
