S. Korean Independent Candidate to Run for Presidency

Chung, who also is the President of the Korean Football Association and vice-Chairmen of the International Federation of Football Association, said his rising popularity in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province,Chungcheong Province and other areas was a sign that many people believe if he became president, the nation would go forward without any provincial discrimination in the 21st century, he told local reporters at Ulsan, southeast of Seoul.
Chung, who has served as co-president of the organizing committee of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup soccer finals held in South Korea, said his forthcoming announcement of presidential candidacy would mean his resignation as a member of the National Assembly, reported Yonhap.
The reputation of Chung Mong-joon went on ascending due to the successful co-host of the World Cup of Soccer and the good resultsthe South Korean national soccer team gained in the competence.
