Chinese Premier Arrives in Algeria for Official Visit
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji arrived in Algiers Sunday afternoon for a three-day official visit, during which he is expected to discuss with Algerian leaders bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

Zhu and his wife Lao An were greeted at the Boumedienne International Airport by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika��President of the National Council Abdelkader Bensalah and Prime Minister Ali Benflis as well as a number of senior ministers of the Algerian government.
Chinese Ambassador to Algeria Wang Wangsheng and his wife Zhao Chunqing were also at the airport to greet Zhu and his entourage.
A welcoming ceremony was held at the airport. The Chinese premier, accompanied by the Algerian president, inspected the guards of honor, and national anthems of the two countries were played.
In a written speech delivered at the airport, Zhu praised as smooth and fruitful the development of the Sino-Algerian relations.
Over the past 44 years since the two countries established diplomatic relations, bilateral relationship and cooperation in allfields have developed and been boosted under the guidance of the five principles of peaceful co-existence, Zhu said.
The Chinese premier, who is visiting Algeria at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Benflis, stressed that both China and Algeria, as two important developing countries, should increase theexchange of various level visits, maintain close bilateral consultations and coordination in dealing with international matters, and enhance friendship and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Zhu said that he is looking forward to exchanging views with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Prime Minister Benflis as well as other Algerian friends over bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern, so that to promote the friendship and cooperation between the two countries to a new phase of development.
He said that he believes his current visit may achieve the goal -- enhancing friendship, expanding common consensus, strengthening mutual trust and promoting cooperation.
The Chinese premier is expected to attend a banquet held by his Algerian counterpart in his honor on Sunday evening.
Algeria is the first leg of Zhu's four-nation visit to Africa, which will also take him to Morocco, Cameroon and South Africa. In South Africa, Zhu will attend the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development from Sep. 2 to 4.
