China holds England in Women's Hockey Champions Trophy
China held England to a 1-1 draw in the 10th Women's Hockey Champions Trophy held Saturday. Mel Clewlow opened the scoring for England in the 54th minute and Chen Zhaoxia found an equalizer 15 minutes later.
In an interview with Xinhua, Chinese team manager Hai Xian noted the six teams match each other in strength with their own characteristics, so the final result will be decided upon performance of each team.
The European players are physically stronger and Chinese players are more nimble in general, she cited, adding that her team will "do its best for a better result."
The Chinese team has been conducting intense training since last December in the neighboring Guangdong Province. Among the 22 players, nine participated in the Sydney Olympic Games.
In the previous Women's Hockey Champions Trophy in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, Argentina became the winning team and China finished fourth.
