A Zimbabwean ruling party's activist was shot dead in Harare, which could be politically motivated, the police said here on Friday.
The police said that Ali Khen Manjengwa, a former Harare provincial central committee member of the ruling Zimbabwe AfricanNational Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF), was killed in cold bloodby two assailants on Thursday evening.
Manjengwa, 40, was killed at B6 Block 12 of Nenyere Flats in the Magaba Section of Mbare where he had gone to hold a meeting with the ZANU-PF youth members, the police said.
"He was shot below the left eye and he died on the spot," said the police, adding that "members of the public tried to give chaseto the two suspects who were seen running away from the scene."
"A member of the public was assaulted by one of the suspects with an iron bar before the pair got into a get-away car," the police added.
Investigations were underway for the assassination.
