Russian, DPRK Leaders Begin Talks in Far East Port
Russian President Vladimir Putin began talks Friday with Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), in Vladivostok, a city in Russia's Far East region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), began talks Friday in Russia's Pacific port of Vladivostok, focusing on economic cooperation and inf rastructure development.
Opening the talks, Putin said he specially invited Kim to discuss the issue of linking the Inter-Korean and Trans-Siberian railways, which would join the Korean Peninsula with Europe via Russia, the Itar-tass news agency reported.
Putin also reiterated "Russia's sincere interest" in promoting the settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue.
Kim expressed "a thousand percent" satisfaction at his ongoing trip.
This is the second summit between the two leaders in a year.
Kim arrived in Vladivostok earlier Friday on the final stop of his four-day trip to Russia's Far East region. Traveling on the Komsomolsk-on-Amur-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok route, Kim visited shipyards, defense plants and other local manufacturers.
