Chinese Mainland Firmly Opposes 'Taiwan Independence': Official
A senior official from the Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council says the Chinese mainland is firmly opposed to any form of "Taiwan independence," and will unswervingly protect the basic interests of the people in Taiwan.
A senior official from the Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council says the Chinese mainland is firmly opposed to any form of "Taiwan independence," and will unswervingly protect the basic interests of the people in Taiwan.
Director of the Taiwan Affairs Office Chen Yunlin made the remarks while meeting with a Taiwan delegation to the mainland.
Chen Yunlin points out that a recent speech by the leader of the Taiwan authority, Chen Shui-bian, has badly hurt the fundamental interests of the people in Taiwan. He says the Taiwan leader's separatist remarks will remain empty words as they run against Taiwan residents' desire for peace, stability and development.
The official also notes that it is China's set policy to promote people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and this won't be affected or disturbed by political factors.
