"At least 45 people were feared dead Thursday when a passenger bus plying from Kathmandu to Baglung fell down into the Trishuli river near Mugling in Prithvi highway, 110 kilometer west of Kathmandu," the official said.
The passenger bus slipped off the road and plunged into the river, he noted without giving any detail about the accident.
Police are investigating the accident and believed it may be caused by overloading as well as the slippery road surface after the incessant heavy rains in recent days.
In the Himalayan kingdom, hundreds of people die in road accidents every year, especially during the monsoon season from June to September.
