A cemetery has been built in Dawa County, in northeastern Liaoning province, for Chinese soldiers and officers who sacrificed their lives in the last large-scale battle of the 1895 Sino-Japanese War.

In March 1895, Japanese troops intruded into Tianzhuangtai town,Dawa county, killing more than 2,000 Chinese servicemen and destroying the old commercial town.

In April 2001, local historians found the original site of the battle, which was then a paddy field.

The cemetery, which covers approximately 10,000 square meters, features a two-meter high tomb with an area of 2,000 square meters.

The local government also plans to repair the old emplacements and build a memorial hall to honor the war martyrs. It will take about three years to complete the whole project, according to local officials.
