Fire Ruins 20 Percent of Mongolian Forests
More than 100 forest fire cases were reported in Mongolia in the past two months, and almost 20 percent of the northeastern Asian country's forest reserves have been burnt out, the national Mongolian News Agency reported on Tuesday.

In all, 119 forest fires had broken out nationwide since July 1,involving the capital city and 12 provinces. About 90 had been extinguished and more than 20 are still burning, said the news agency.
It added that in the capital city alone, forest fires broke outin eight places, and the emergency committee of Ulan Bator is taking all measures to fight the fires.
Prime Minister Nambaryn Enkhbayar declared that from August 16,all provinces and Ulan Bator should be ready for civil defense to assist in firefighting. Organizations which have more than 50 employees will be mobilized to fight the fires. Those failing official duty will be punished according to the Law of Administrative Responsibility.
Forest land covers eight percent of the Mongolian territory. Forest fires break out every year and damage a large tracts of forest.
