The Thai Public Health Ministry urged the public to help halve the rate of dengue fever infections over the next three years, as more than 68,000 Thais have been infected with dengue fever virus, the Bangkok Post reported Monday.

Suvit Thammapalo, director of the Dengue Fever Control Office, said there have been 68,103 dengue patients in Thailand and 104 of them died of the disease.

The disease could strike people at all ages, particularly school children, the report said.

Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphan pledged that the ministry would limit the number of dengue fever patients to no more than 30,000 people a year through a three-year campaign on fighting against dengue.

However, she said to reach the goal it needs help from the city administration and the Ministries of Education, Interior and Defense.
