Israeli Army Destroys Palestinian Houses, Continues Arrests

The Israeli army destroyed on Sunday two Palestinian houses in one of the villages near the West Bank town of Ramallah, while continuing raiding houses and arresting dozens of people, Palestinian witnesses said.

The Israeli army destroyed on Sunday two Palestinian houses in one of the villages near the West Bank town of Ramallah, while continuing raiding houses and arresting dozens of people, Palestinian witnesses said.

The witnesses said that the Israeli army's bulldozers destroyed two houses in the village of Lebban Al Sharqeya claiming that the two houses were built on the main street of the village.

They said that a number of troops accompanied by armored vehicles arrived at the village and began to demolish the houses without warning their residents.



According to the Israeli army Radio, however, a Jewish settler who was driving to one of the settlements in the area was shot deadby Palestinian militants near the two houses.

The owners of the two houses denied that they were involved in the killing, and accused the Israeli army of practicing the policy of "collective punishment that was adopted by the current Israeli government."

Official reports said that the Israeli army have destroyed 28 Palestinian houses in August, which Palestinian human rights organization condemned as "a violation to the international law."

Meanwhile, an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded Sunday morningby shrapnel during an exchange of gunfire between Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen in the Gush Katif settlement in the Gaza Strip.

Israel Radio reported that Israeli troops arrested 15 Palestinians wanted for armed activities early Sunday morning near the West Bank city of Ramallah.

In separate incidents, bombs exploded overnight Saturday next toIsraeli army vehicles traveling near the West Bank cities of Jenin and Tulkarem.

The radio reported that a mortar was fired at the Gush Katif settlement in the Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
