Commentary: Taiwan's Two Trouble Makers
Xinhua released a commentary Thursday saying that Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's "one country on each side" statement is nothing but a legacy of his predecessor Lee Tung-hui's "state-to-state" concept.
Xinhua released a commentary Thursday saying that Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's "one country on each side" statement is nothing but a legacy of his predecessor Lee Tung-hui's "state-to-state" concept.
"Lee and Chen are using each other to create new troubles to jeopardize cross-strait relations and regional stability," the article says.
It says that both Lee and Chen made separatist statements at a recent meeting held by advocates of "Taiwan independence". This shows Lee and Chen have masterminded the "Taiwan independence" movements on the island and in other places of the world.
Shortly after Chen advocated his "one country on each side", the Chinese mainland expressed strong opposition to the statement, the article says. People in Taiwan have also criticized him for his statement and even the United States does not support him, the article adds.
This is why Lee jumped onto the bandwagon to support and encourage Chen. He wanted to prevent Chen from changing his position, it says.
Lee and Chen's collusion illustrates that the two troublemakers have formed an alliance for "Taiwan independence". Their goal is to prevent the failure of the "one country on each side" statement.
The article says that the Lee-Chen alliance means nothing but dictatorship, is reactionary, and will fail. It urges Chen to stop working with Lee as soon as possible, and retract his statement of "one country on each side".
