Inter-Korean Joint Celebration Begins

Civic delegates from South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Thursday morning jointly celebrated the 57th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule in Seoul.

The celebration opening ceremony, which was attended by 405 delegates representing South Korean civic organizations and 116 delegates from the DPRK, was held at the Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel in eastern Seoul, according to a report by national news agency Yonhap News.

South Korean chief delegate Lee Don-myoung and his counterpart,DPRK National Reconciliation Council Chairman Kim Yong-dae, gave opening speeches at the ceremony, said the report.

In the joint celebrations, the two sides will hold a series of communication movements on culture, history and academy aspects.

The DPRK delegation arrived in South Korea on Wednesday via the inter-Korean direct air route aboard an Air Koryo flight of its own and attended a dinner hosted by Lee Don-myoung.

It will return to Pyongyang on Saturday morning.
