The Indonesian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed in an official statement Wednesday that the government consistently adheres to the one-China policy and has long recognized Taiwan as an integral part of the People's Republic of China.

As a consequence of this basic position, according to the statement, the Indonesian government does not have diplomatic relations or official contacts with Taiwan.

The statement was given following various reports regarding a visit by Taiwanese "Vice-President" Annette Lu to Indonesia.

The official statement said the Indonesian government has not in anyway arranged for the visit of Annette Lu to Indonesia, certainly not in her supposed capacity as vice president of an entity.

Should there be any plan for Lu's visit, it would probably be in her transit to a third country, the ministry stressed.

The Indonesian government, according to the statement, values highly its relations in all aspects with the People's Republic of China, which has continued to strengthen bilaterally and within the context of closer interaction among countries in the region.

Lu arrived at the Soekarno-Hatta airport here at 1255 local time Wednesday (0555 GMT) but she was not allowed to enter Jakarta, capital of this country, and Lu had to shift her trip to Bali Island without even stepping out of the airport.
