Chinese Beach Volleyballers Eye Gold, Silver at Asian Games

Chinese beach volleyball players are aimed at gold and silver medals at the 14th Asian Games set for September 29-October 14 in Pusan, South Korea,a senior official of the Chinese Volleyball Association said Wednesday.

Chinese beach volleyball players are aimed at gold and silver medals at the 14th Asian Games set for September 29-October 14 in Pusan, South Korea,a senior official of the Chinese Volleyball Association said Wednesday.

At the opening of the FIVB women's beach volleyball World Tour China Open in China's southern port city of Maoming, Gao Shenyang,the deputy manager of China's volleyball, told a press briefing that China's women beach volleyballers will strive for gold while the men's team will go for a final berth in the upcoming Asiad.

"Although the event is developed in China for a short time, Chinese players have made rapid progress. The women's pair Chi Rong and Xiong Zi have achieved some good results in World Tours."Gao said.

"Another women's pair Tian Jia and Wang Fei also made steady progress in recent years, and has risen to the eighth in the worldrankings," he added.

The China Open in Maoming provided a chance for reviewing the Chinese pairs, and the final list of the participants for the Pusan Asiad would be fixed after the tournament, he noted.

Beach volleyball, a world popular new sport, has become an official event in Olympic Games since 1993.

As the eighth prix of FIVB women's beach volleyball World Tour,the China Open attracted twenty one pairs of the top 24 in the World Tour rankings. A total of 58 pairs from 23 countries including the United States, Brazil, Cuba, Norway, Spain, Bulgariaand China will vie for the trophy during the five-day tournament.
