Twelve people were arrested on Tuesday after police staged raids on 17 homes across Britain as part of a five-month investigation into child pornography on the Internet.

Computer equipment was seized in all cases and was being examined.
"There exists a high level of cooperation between police forces throughout Britain and Internet service providers, which will continue," a spokesman said.
Most of the raids took place in the greater London area, but some were carried out as far afield as Northern Ireland and northern Scotland.
In May, 36 people were arrested when police, acting on information from US law enforcement agencies, raided 44 homes around Britain which allegedly had been downloading paedophilic images from a US-based Internet site.
