The Israeli Supreme Court issued Tuesday a temporary injunction to freeze the deportation of three Palestinians to the Gaza Strip, Israel Radio reported.

The ruling was a judicial response to an appeal submitted earlier in the day by the three Palestinians, who are relatives of suicide bombers and those behind the attacks against Israelis.

The Supreme Court gives the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) a 15-dayperiod to respond to the injunction, the radio said.

The IDF court approved Monday the expulsion of the three Palestinians from the West Bank to the Gaza Strip, and gave them 12hours to appeal to the Supreme Court against the expulsion.

The expulsion would be the first since the outbreak of a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation in September 2000.

The Israeli authorities has decided to deport Palestinian relatives of suicide bombers following a series of bombing attacks in the past weeks. But the deportations were postponed last month due to severe international criticism.

The expulsion and demolition of houses of Palestinians linked to "terrorists" are considered as new tactics by the Israeli government, which are aimed at discouraging Palestinians from carrying out attacks.

Human rights activists, however, criticized the policy, saying that demolition of houses and expulsions constitute collective punishment and will not deter future Palestinian attacks.

Such measures "are not only immoral and cruel and violate the Geneva Conventions, but they will bring about the opposite result, the creation of more suicide bombers," they said.

The violent conflict between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants has been worsening in recent months. The violence has reportedly left some 600 Israelis and over 1,500 Palestinians dead since the beginning of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000.

Suicide bombings, bus bombings and shooting attacks carried out by Palestinian radical groups, such as Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Islamic Jihad (Holy War), Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of the Palestinian mainstream Fatah movement, have brought huge menace to the security of Israelis.
