Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is expected to meet with U.S. President George W. Bush in New York around Sept. 12 on a visit to attend a memorial service for victims of the Sept. 11 terror attacks last year and the U.N. General Assembly, government sources said Tuesday.

The two leaders will meet for the first time since they attended the Group of Eight summit meeting in June in Kananaskis, Canada, and are expected to discuss ways to fight terrorism, they said.

Bush will also hold meetings with other world leaders, who will attend the ceremony Sept. 11 at the vacant lot where the World Trade Center once stood, while Koizumi will show a decisive stance to counter terrorism in his U.N. speech, they said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi is also scheduled to visit Washington around Sept. 15 to talk with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, they said.
