Jordan on Saturday called back its ambassador to Qatar Omar al-Amad for consultations over the bilateral relations following Jordan's closure of Qatari Al-JazeeraTV's office in Amman.
Jordan on Saturday called back its ambassador to Qatar Omar al-Amad for consultations over the bilateral relations following Jordan's closure of Qatari Al-JazeeraTV's office in Amman.
The Jordanian government accused Qatar of deliberately harming the interests of Jordan and other Arab countries, the official Petra news agency reported, without giving more details.
Jordan's Information Minister Muhammad Adwan on Wednesday closedthe Al-Jazeera office in Amman and ordered to revoke its licence for alleged defamation and harming Jordanian and Arab interests.
Al-Jazeera correspondents were also banned from practicing any activities inside the kingdom.
Defending the decision, Adwan said that Al-Jazeera deliberately harms Jordan and its pan Arab stands either indirectly or directly. It has transcended all professional and moral values in dealing with a lot of issues.
Jordanian officials said the kingdom was extremely angered at a program the Jazeera aired last Tuesday, in which the kingdom's rulers were said to be puppets of the United States and Israel.
It is unconstitutional to criticise King Abdullah or any other members of the royal family in Jordan, the officials said.
