The Chinese boxers, who are warming up here for the 14th Asian Games set for September 29-October 14 in South Korean city of Pusan, have set the target of clinching medals in the Games.
The Chinese team head coach Dong Tingjiang said during a recenttraining session that although there are strong opponents from South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, and Central Asian countries ahead, the Chinese boxers will strive for their best results in all the categories.
Now, the Chinese national boxing team has 28 players who are the national champions and outstanding athletes in all the categories in China. China's best result in Asian Games boxing event was a gold medal in the 81-kilogram category in Beijing Asiad in 1990, followed by a silver in the 48kg category in Bangkok Asiad in 1998.
During the Asian boxing championships in June, Chinese boxer Hada Bater won the gold for the 71kg category, while his teammate Mai Kangde took the 51kg silver, and Chen Tongzhou and Zhang Junlong collected bronze medals in the 57kg and the over 91kg apiece.
The Chinese boxing team also attended an international friendlyin Uzbekistan after the Asian championships and performed well.
Dong said,"Now, as compared to the world ace boxers, Chinese players are weak in attacking and counter-attacking. Our athletes are also lack of experience and confidence in games."
In a bid to enhance their strength, the Chinese boxers will undergo an one-month strenuous drill before the Pusan Asiad, he added.
