Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is set to postpone his visit to China in September, the major daily Yomiuri Shimbun reported Thursday on its Web site.

Chinese Premier Zhu Ronji invited Koizumi to Beijing when they met in April.

The prime minister's postponement is due to the growing criticism in China against his visit to the World-War-II related shrine in Tokyo, the report said.

The two governments haven't yet been able to come up with an alternative date for Koizumi's visit and a total cancellation of the trip - which was to commemorate the 30th anniversary of restoring diplomatic relations - could further damage the already-strained Japan-China relations, the report added.
