Macao Daily Criticizes Chen's Independence Speech
Chen Shui-bian, leader of the Taiwan authority, was intending to regard 23 million Taiwan compatriots as nothing but "cannon fodder" for seeking his political ambition when he advocated the so-called "both sides are countries" theory, Macao Daily News said Thursday.
Chen Shui-bian, leader of the Taiwan authority, was intending to regard 23 million Taiwan compatriots as nothing but "cannon fodder" for seeking his political ambition when he advocated the so-called "both sides are countries" theory, Macao Daily News said Thursday.
The most influential newspaper in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) slammed Chen for defying the wish of Taiwan people to recover economy and reduce unemployment through direct links with the Chinese mainland.
His speech will seriously sabotage the relations across the Taiwan Straits and affect stability and peace in the Asia-Pacific region, the paper said.
It pointed out Chen's position on Taiwan independence is consistent and his commitment of not seeking Taiwan independence, not changing the name of Taiwan, not enlisting the theory of two countries into the constitute and not holding referendum in his inauguration speech was merely an expedient measure aimed at deceiving the people in Taiwan and the world opinion.
"Chen's speech was just a 'new bottle filled with old wine'; his face was not changed, but exposed more apparently," the Chinese language newspaper said.
