The draw for the 2003 Women's World Cup soccer tournament will be held on May 23, 2003 in central Chinese city Wuhan, which is one of the tournament's four venue cities, organizers said Wednesday.
"Out of the venue cities, Wuhan and Shanghai had bid for the lots drawing ceremony," said Feng Jianming, director of the secretariat of the organizing committee.
The two other cities are Chengdu in the southwest and Hangzhou in the east.
"Considering the fact that Shanghai is the main venue city where FIFA's congress, a century celebration and an IT high-tech information seminar will also be held, FIFA decided to grant the right to Wuhan," Feng said.
Feng told Xinhua that Wuhan plans to hold the drawing ceremony in the Huanghe Tower, a site of historic interests.
"The plan not only promotes the spread of women's soccer but also demonstrates the profound Chinese culture and history," he added.
The fourth Women's World Cup finals will be held from September 24 to October 11 next year.
