HK Public Figures Condemn Taiwan Leader's Splittist Remarks
Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's "one country on each side" remarks should be condemned by the Chinese people across the Taiwan Strait as well as overseas Chinese, said Tsang Hin-Chi, a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, in a Xinhua interview Wednesday.
Tsang said Chen's remarks will put the 23 million Taiwanese in a dangerous situation.
Chen's splittist remarks will make the cross-straits relations tense, Tsang said.
Chen's attempt goes against the desire of reunification shared by the 1.3 billion Chinese people across the Strait, he added.
Lee Kok Keung, chairman of the Hong Kong Culture Association Limited, said in a Xinhua interview that Chen is a "trouble-maker"who insists on splitting the motherland.
Currently more and more Taiwan people embrace the "one country, two systems" principle and peaceful reunification, Lee said.
The "Three Direct Links" and the reunification process can not be reversed, he said.
