Chen Shui-bian's Sophistry in Essence 'Taiwan Independence' : HK Media

Hong Kong's major newspapers continued to carry editorials and commentaries Wednesday saying that Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's sophistry can't whitewash his true colors of "Taiwan independence".

Hong Kong's major newspapers continued to carry editorials and commentaries Wednesday saying that Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's sophistry can't whitewash his true colors of "Taiwan independence".

The Hong Kong Commercial Daily said in an editorial that three days after Chen openly preached "one country on each side" and the promotion of legislation on referendum, Chen quibbled that his speech on August 3 was meant to convey the so-called "equality of sovereignty".

It's clear to all people that it's just forced sophistry from Chen who was currently faced with attacks from both inside and outside Taiwan island and under high pressure.

The paper pointed out, even though Chen stealthily changed the concept of "country" into "sovereignty", it can't cover his true aim of "Taiwan independence" and proves to be a play of words which would deceive nobody but himself.

This road leading to "Taiwan independence" undertaken by Chen Shui-bian is doomed to failure and destined to incur strong opposition from the people in Taiwan, according to the paper.

Wen Wei Po wrote in its commentary that the "Taiwan independence" propositions embraced by Chen not only go against the desire of reunification shared by the Chinese people across both sides of the Taiwan Straits as well as overseas Chinese, but also get no support from the international community.

The paper called on the Chinese people across the Straits to continue to push forward the reunification cause and strike the Taiwan separatists with concrete actions.

Ta Kung Pao's commentary held that Chen Shui-bian's remarks andactions are highly dangerous. To prevent the casualties and misfortune caused by a war against separatists, Taiwan's 20 million people should act in unity to oppose the remarks and actions by those advocating "Taiwan independence". This is the only way out for Taiwan people to find their hope.
