Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh has ordered the forming of an anti-terror intelligence agency amid reports that the United States is ready to help with training of Yemeni personnel, local media said Wednesday.
The agency in the making will function to collect information linked to the country's security with a key task to thwart "infiltration by hostile elements," according to a presidential decree issued the day before.
Yemen inaugurated the agency in conformation with the US-led global fight against terrorism.
Washington sees terror hotbeds in both Yemen and Sudan and has urged the two countries to take necessary actions against terrorists.
In one of its latest overtures, the United States offered to help train military personnel for Yemen in coordination with its global anti-terror strategy.
