Free of pressure as no specific target set for the upcoming Asian Games, Chinese taekwondo athletes will try to win as many gold medals as they can, a leading Chinese sports official said Tuesday.

"We haven't come out with a specific target for the Pusan Games, but that's for sure we will strive for as many golds as possible,"said Cao Tao, deputy director of Chinese Taekwondo Administrative Center.

Chinese athletes won one silver and three bronzes in the sport at the Bangkok Asian Games in 1998.

As challenge looms daunting from taekwondo powerhouse South Korea, Chinese are under thorough preparations for the Games, set for September 29 to October 14.

"The athletes have been preparing since the beginning of this year," Cao said. "Now they are focusing on strength and stamina training."
