One-China Policy Remains Unchanged: US State Dept

A spokesman for the United States State Department said on Monday that the one-China policy of the United States is a "long-standing" one and has not changed.

A spokesman for the United States State Department said on Monday that the one-China policy of the United States is a "long-standing" one and has not changed.

Philip Reeker, deputy spokesman for the State Department, told apress briefing that "the United States policy, which is a long-standing one, is a 'one China' policy, and our policy has not changed at all."

He made the remarks when asked whether the Bush administration will consider Chen Shui-bian a trouble-maker, or consider him to be testing the basic positioning of the US government.

On Saturday, Chen called in a speech for a referendum on Taiwan's future and destiny and stated that "each side is a country."

Reeker also said that US interest and concern was that "any resolution be peaceful."
