Albanian Police have collected about 198,000 weapons lost since the turmoil occurred in 1997, local news media reported.
Police said that they made great efforts to collect the lost weapons in these years and the United Nations (UN) also launched projects to invest credits in certain states after citizens living there hand over their weapons.
Under a law passed by Albanian Parliament, everyone who still hold illegal weapons after the date of August 4 would be sentencedto 7 years in prison.
A total of 550,000 weapons were grabbed from magazines by hundreds of thousands of angry Albanians who lost most of their deposits in an illegal money collection campaign in 1997.
The possession of illegal weapons then became a serious social problem in the Balkan country.
