The US military command has withdrawn 400 soldier from the Pak-Afghan border at Spin-Boldakon, fearing possible attacks from al-Qaeda and Taleban activists positioned in the area, according to a report from News Network International (NNI) Monday.
The US military command has withdrawn 400 soldier from the Pak-Afghan border at Spin-Boldakon, fearing possible attacks from al-Qaeda and Taleban activists positioned in the area, according to a report from News Network International (NNI) Monday.
"These 400 American troops were taking care of the bordering area at Pak-Afghan border as part of search and haunting operationagainst al-Qaeda and Taleban activists. But they were called back to Kandahar after some intelligence reports that al-Qaeda activists present in the locality may be prompting some more attacks targeting the Americans," NNI quoted an intelligence source as saying.
The US troops started leaving the area Saturday night and completed withdrawal in the wee hours Sunday, the source said.
The attack on the American military camp at Argon, Paktika, last week by al-Qaeda activists, had prompted the decision to pullout the US troops deployed at Spin-Boldak, according to the source.
"The withdrawal is temporary and for the sake of protection of the American soldiers but the area is well guarded by the allied force troops," the source said.
The other troops of the allied force led by the United States, especially the Afghan troops, were of the view that the terrorist attacks on the US troops in the last two weeks, especially in Paktika, had got on nerves of most of the US troops deployed at Pak-Afghan border.
