Coal-mine Gas Explosion Kills Eight Miners

The bodies of six miners trapped in a central China coal-mine hit after a gas explosion Friday morning were found, bringing the total death toll of the accident to eight,officials said Saturday.

The bodies of six miners trapped in a central China coal-mine hit after a gas explosion Friday morning were found, bringing the total death toll of the accident to eight,officials said Saturday.

Altogether 25 people were working underground when the accident occurred at about 10:45 a.m. in private Tanghuangping Coal Mine in Wufengshan Tujia Autonomous County, Hubei Province.

The explosion left two dead on the spot and six trapped, while 17 others, including four injured, escaped with their lives.

Leading local officials rushed to the mine to coordinating rescue efforts soon after the gas blast.

The six dead include Jiang Hua, contractor of the coal mine whodenied an order to stop production for safety examination in late June.
