Chi Haotian, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, met here Friday with a delegation of general officers of the National Defense University of the United States, headed by General Robert Sennewald.
Chi, also state councilor and minister of national defense, said the two nations had made great progress in consultation and cooperation on important international and regional issues, including the fight against terrorism as well as trade and economy.
Differences should not hamper contacts and cooperation between the two sides, he said.
Chi said China valued the relationship between the two armies, and was ready to join with the US to promote mutual exchanges, in line with the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries.
He said that some Americans alleged there was a "China threat",supported the Falun Gong cult, and expanded substantial military exchanges between the US and Taiwan, which would harm the sound development of ties between China and the US.
Sennewald said the relationship between the two armies faced many opportunities for development.
The delegation's visit to China, the climax of their east Asiantour, would deeply impress them, he said.
The visit was a new start for developing relations between the two armies, Sennewald added.
