Israeli troops shot dead a nine-year-old Palestinian girl in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza Strip on Thursday night, Palestinian medical sources said.
The sources at Nasser Hospital in the town said that the girl, Asma Ahmed, was shot dead by Israeli troops stationed at the Jewish settlement of Nitzer Hazani to the north of Khan Younis while standing near her house.
She was hit in her head by a Israeli troops' gunfire and immediately killed.
The Israeli troops suddenly opened intensive heavy gunshots at the area killing the girl and wounding a 60-year-old man that was also walking in the street, the sources added.
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, launched a suicide bomb attack on Wednesday at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, killing seven people, including five foreigners and two Israelis, and injuring 97.
Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer Wednesday evening approved a rapid military retaliation against Hamas targets, but there were no details on the exact nature of the response.
