The next G8 summit of the seven leading industrialized countries and Russia is to be held in France's southeastern spa town of Evian-les-Bains in early June 2003, the French presidency announced Wednesday.
French President Jacques Chirac has informed Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien of this choice, announced the French presidency.
Chirac has chosen the city of Evian-les-Bains "for it offers a site propitious for reflection of heads of state and government," said the announcement.
Canada hosted the G8 summit this year on June 26 and 27 in its mountainous city of Kananaskis.
Evian-les-Bains, known for the mineral water which bears the same name, lies on the southern bank of Lake Leman in the French Alps near the border of Switzerland.
