South Korean President Kim Dae-jung Wednesday deeply regretted the parliamentary veto of Chang Sang's designation as prime minister.
Kim expressed the regret when his chief of staff Park Jie-won informed him of the parliamentary veto result, President Office spokeswoman Park Sun-sook was quoted as saying by the national news agency Yonhap News.
Kim will suspend his week-long summer vacation and return to work and preside over a State Council meeting at Cheong Wa dae, the site of the President Office, on Thursday, the spokeswoman added.
"It is regrettable that such an able premier-designate was rejected in a parliamentary vote," said Park
"However, President Kim Dae-jung will now consider whether to nominate another prime minister after giving careful evaluation tothe situation," she added.
Meanwhile, Chang Sang has rendered her resignation as acting prime minister to President Kim on Wednesday evening, said Yonhap.
And she also expressed her position on the veto, saying in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon, "I respect and accept humbly the decision made by the Matinal Assembly representing the people."
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance and Economy Minister Jeon Yun-Churl will replace her as acting prime minister until a new prime minister is appointed, said Yonhap.
