According to a nationwide interview of 45,000 households of urban citizens conducted by the National Statistic Bureau (NSB) the first half of the year saw an obvious growth in average disposable income and consuming expense of the urban citizens.
The monthly disposable income averaged RMB 657-yuan/per capita of the urban citizens. With the deduction of the price factor, the actual increase is 17.5 percent as against the same period of last year.
The monthly consuming expense of the urban citizens averages RMB 494-yuan/per head, indicating a rise of 13.3 percent as compared to the same period after the deduction of the price factor.
The big increase in disposable income during the first half of the year attributes to the following two reasons: first of all, the big increase comes from wage and salary. In the average monthly income of the city-dwellers, the income of 491-yuan is from the wage, an increase of 21.1 percent, of which the average wage and subsidy as per head come to RMB 476-yuan, a rise 23 percent as against the same period.
This is mainly due to the effect of the wage raise and the double monthly wage at the yearend of last year. Secondly, it sees an obvious increase in transferable income.
The first half of the year saw the citizen's transferable income average at RMB 169-yuan/per head, a growth of 25.9 percent as compared to the corresponding period. The main reasons are: First, the difference of the pension due to last year's wage increase for the retired of government organs, institutions and other units was paid retroactively and the additional subsidy for the Spring Festival, realizing an increase of 23.2 percent as against the same period,
Secondly, there is an evident increase in donations and alimonies, an increase of 29.2 percent and thirdly, a relatively big increase of other transferable income, such as the income from the dismissal allowances, withdrawal of the accumulated funds or subsidies for houses of the urban inhabitants.
There witnessed a quicker increase in consuming expenses among the city-dwellers though it saw a decrease tendency in consumption. In the eight categories of consuming expenses, medicine and healthcare, transportation and communication, clothing, recreational, educational and cultural services, foodstuff, other commodities and services, household facilities and appliance and service are all on the increase. The monthly transportation and communication saw the biggest increase, a growth of 24.3 percent.
The first half of the year saw the city-dwellers' consuming tendency being at 73 percent, a decrease of 1.3 percentage points as against the same period. The increase of the citizen's consuming expense is in terms of the increase of the income yet is still somewhat pale and moreover, the consuming expense indicates a distinctive festival effect.
