China, US Talk on Agricultural Agreement Implementation
China's trade minister and the visiting US agricultural secretary held talks Tuesday on implementing bilateral agricultural agreements and farm product trade issues, which turned out "constructive", according to a ministry spokeswoman.
China's trade minister and the visiting US agricultural secretary held talks Tuesday on implementing bilateral agricultural agreements and farm product trade issues.
The talks between Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng and US Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman are "constructive," said ministry spokeswoman Gao Yan at apress conference.
Gao said China supports the on-going new round of agricultural negotiations in the framework of the World Trade Organization, and has taken an active part in talks themed on market admittance, domestic support and export subsidies.
China holds that developing countries, especially those least developed, are victimized by the enormous farm product subsidies of developed countries, and the interests of developing and the least developed countries should be a priority in the new round of negotiations, she said.
In answering a question from the press, Gao said China has received a proposal on farm product negotiations from the US side.
"China will carefully study the details, and respond in future negotiations," she said.
